Contentment

In life, there are instances, perhaps too many instances, whereby we are too caught up in this chase to the finishing line. We fill our minds with the happiness we feel we can achieve at the end of the race and simply forget to pause and enjoy the race. We sacrifice so many things in life just for that ‘happiness’ we conjure up in our head. And than, when we finally finished the race, we look back and realize we are all alone. We’ve left everyone behind and there’s no one there to congratulate us, no one there to share our happiness. We realize, we are not as happy as we thought we would be.

After 13 years of chasing for that perfect A, and now that exams are in a days time, it feels natural to get wrapped up in this crazy pressure I have always put on myself and bury myself nose deep into my ( VERY THICK AND SCARY) notes. I mean, as chinese we are always brought up thinking we have to give in our all and get that first spot. That is normal, right? Well, think about it, that magna cum laude (?) is right there, within your reach and you know if you push yourself a little harder, work that extra hour, cram that extra page of notes into your brain, you can definitely grab it. But would it actually make your life complete?

Okay, I’m acting as though I didn’t study today. Which is a lie, i crammed as much as i could in a day. I’m not really sure what i’m feeling or trying to say now. But i guess, one day, when I can finally let go, all this angst and disgust in my actions would make more sense. And hopefully by than i’d be able to enjoy the race and the finishing line.

It’s always easy to say this, but nearly impossible to achieve: Slow down and appreciate life as it is. Be contented with life, because you can only live it once.

It’s always better to want what you have, than to have what you want.
